Description
This bill promises to be very… intimate.
GOLDEN GHOST - is a band fronted by Laura Goetz from the village of Endicott in Upstate New York.
Fans of Lykke Li, CocoRose, Joanna Newsom, Scout Niblett and (what the heck) Patti Smith…you have been missing out. Golden Ghost is the evolution of lady artrock… Golden Ghost is Laura Goetz, guitarist and songwriter from Endicott, NY. Her new album, The Unimaginative Body, is ambitious and endearing with inventive song structures and moving vocals.
Goetz’ music is addictive, yet surprisingly dissimilar to typical “pop” songs. Rhapsodic in structure, her music often has dramatic stress and meter fluctuations, unpredictable key changes, and tantalizing discord. Goetz fuses catchy melodies, which can reoccur from song to song, delivered with technically complex electric guitar playing.
Lyrically, she often uses themes from extremely brief life encounters and observances, (such as a Scottish man who paints moonscapes, or an institutionalized Missouri woman who had been discovered swallowing hundreds of small metal objects, and even of 70’s television’s French Chef host Julia Child!) and produces extensive monologues told from the perspective of her subjects, an exquisite display of imagination, compassion and poetry.
Laura Goetz moved to New York City in October 2006. She joined up as a band member of Castanets (Asthmatic Kitty Records) for their Spring ‘07 North American tour, after which she moved into the Silent Barn, a DIY music venue in the NYC borough of Queens (featured in SPIN Magazine, December 2008).
G. Lucas Crane (Wooden Wand & The Vanishing Voice, Nonhorse) provided recording equipment for the first Golden Ghost album “FAUNA OF MIRRORS” (Epiphysis Records), which also featured the accompaniment Brendon Massei (Viking Moses), Goetz’ brother Eriksen, and NYC talent agent John Chavez of Ground Control Touring.
