Description

Come and join Soundcrash at KOKO this Easter Sunday for a journey through the louder side of things, with some truly legendary bands bringing the noise and busting the bass-bins...

The Nightmares of Wax Soundsystem come out of hiding for an ultra-rare fully-live London performance!
Nightmares on Wax should need no introduction; having released one of the most iconic albums of the 90s in 'Smokers Delight' - one of the very first Lps on Warp records - N.O.W. then went on to release mixes in the highly respected 'Dj Kicks' and 'Late Night Tales' series, as well as being instrumental in bringing the legendary De La Soul back into the spotlight thanks to their Sounds of N.O.W. EP. That's some career! Tonight they will regale those lucky enough to attend Koko on Easter Sunday with the full-on Nightmares on Wax experience. BIG.

Formed in 2004 from London Sound System legends, The Trojan Sound System has already had hugely successful shows as a single entity and with the greatest names in reggae, representing the label that has been the home of British Reggae, Ska and Roots since 1968. The Sound System comprises selectors Earl Gateshead and Daddy Ad, and Vocalists Superfour and Chucky Banton.

Earl Gateshead began DJ'ing in Brixton in 1979. He is well known in London for his 20 year residency at The Dive Bar in London's Chinatown and his Saturday residency at the legendary Blue Note club. His reggae nights at Plastic People received Worldwide recognition. Daddy Ad comes from Roots and Reality Soundsystem and, like Earl, always pushed for new sounds and acts. The System's vocalists have twenty years experience as members of the great South London Sound Systems: Taurus, Sir Coxsone and Saxon. Now working on a new album on Trojan featuring Jerry Dammers, Toddla T, Ashley Beedle and more they have been chosen as the absolute cream of London's Reggae entertainers for our skank-pie tonight.

Barry Ashworth and Jason O'Bryan AKA the Dub Pistols have spent the best part of a decade at the forefront of Beats culture. From their early singles for Concrete Records to their genre defying 'Six Million Ways To Live' long player, from intimate venues to festival headline-sets and inclusions on video-game and movie soundtracks, with commissioned remixes from the likes of Lily Allen, Moby, Limp Bizkit and Korn, chewing up hip-hop, dub, techno, ska and punk and spitting them out in a renegade futuristic skank they have consistently defied categorisation and exceeded the highest of expectations. Currently riding high on the success of the recent 'Speakers and Tweeters' album (featuring Rodney P, Blade and Terry Hall, out now on Sunday Best) the future looks good for this pair of producers who have always added a much needed Rock n Roll swagger to the UK's dance scene.

Renowned for their explosive live shows, Smerins Anti-Social Club have long been firing up festival crowds and gig-goers throughout the UK. The 10 piece lineup use the raw ingredients of ska, funk, dub, drum'n'bass and swing to full effect in their epic, brass-heavy instrumentals.

Paper Tiger began life many years ago as a bedroom experiment: produced future hip-hop, broken beat and dub incorporating live instruments and musicians. Since then the project has gone from strength to strength, gaining support from Radio 1 (Mary-Anne Hobbs), 1xtra, Charlie Dark and 6Music (Steve Lamacq), and forthcoming releases include tracks with Foreign Beggars (Dented), Juice Aleem (Big Dada), Sabira Jade (DJ Vadim, Aaron Jerome) and Dudley Perkins (Stones Throw). Over the past 18 months, an 8-piece live band has been performing these productions and more to packed out audiences across Europe. The shows are a fully live, uninterrupted mix of downtempo hip-hop, broken beat, dubstep and more.

Although Lizzy Parks is primarily regarded as a rising star of the jazz/soul scene, her sparkle, spontaneity and desire to mix her influences are a breath of fresh air and hold a much wider appeal, as her countless planned and impromptu accoustic sets at festivals around the world have proved by winning new audiences over every time. Easy on the eye and down-right pornographic for the ears miss Parks is a welcome addition to any line-up, come and melt in the warmth of some truly sultry tones!

Like I said, a truly cataclysmic collection of live acts to while away your Easter evening and set yourself up nicely for that bank-holiday lie-in!
