Underground Lovers
– Original line up reforms for Homebake + Sydney & Melbourne gigs; Rubber Records reissues digital back catalogue
“After years of trying, HOMEBAKE is absolutely thrilled to have finally coerced one of Australia's most critically lauded acts (whom, musically, were well ahead of their time) onto our stage” Homebake
“The Melbourne quintet remain one of the great lost bands of the Australian underground scene” Craig Mathieson (from the book Playlisted UNSW Press, Nov 2009)
“The Underground Lovers are one of the most unique and influential groups that stood out of the pack. If you missed them first time, make sure you don't miss this opportunity, they are well worth discovering” Jae Laffer (The Panics)
“The Underground Lovers are/were one of my favourite bands ever... from anywhere... absolutely brilliant! Its great they’re back together” Steve Kilbey (The Church)
“The first time I heard them was in February 2007. I was in Sydney in a car with Steve Kilbey of The Church. We where listening to Leaves Me Blind... I felt cheated and robbed that I had never heard this band's music before. Anytime I play them at a DJ gig or just have it on in the tour van someone else always seems to end up falling in love with their mysterious, mercurial and magical sounding music” Ricky Rene Maymi (The Brian Jonestown Massacre)
The original line up of Melbourne’s seminal, much loved 90s band UNDERGROUND LOVERS has reformed for three exclusive performances this December, in conjunction with the long awaited Rubber Records digital reissues of the band’s deleted and impossible-to-find back catalogue.
The original members Vincent Giarrusso, Glenn Bennie, Phillippa Nihill, Maurice Argiro and Richard Andrew have come together to perform just three shows!
These performances coincide with Rubber Records digitally reissuing long-deleted back catalogue, including EPs, soundtracks and alternate band experiences, as follows:
