PAPER has thrown a lot of crazy parties in its day. But this Friday's outdoor concert extravaganza, wherein 10,000 people are expected to descend upon the South Street Seaport, is definitely one for the record books. Sounds Like PAPER 2009, a free (yes, free!) concert presented by Ray-Ban, will feature performances by hipster-hip-hopper Kid Cudi and prep-pop duo Chester French, with DJ sets by Brooklyn noise-rock legends Les Savy Fav.
For those unfamiliar, Kid Cudi, recently featured in PAPER's summer music issue, is the genius/Kanye West protégé behind this year's stoner anthem "Day 'N' Night," and one of this summer's most hotly anticipated albums, Man on the Moon: The Guardian, out in August. He'll be joined by the scrappy Harvard grads Maxwell Drummey and D.A. Wallach, aka Chester French, whose cheeky dance-pop ditties have earned them loads of fans, including Mr. Pharrell Williams who produced their April release, Love The Future. Of the concert, the boys had this to say: "We can't wait to pump the South Street Seaport full of hawt rawk music and to show the PAPERMAGNATES what Chester French is all about. We're looking forward to playing songs from our debut albums Love the Future and Jacques Jams, Vol. 1: Endurance, both available at www.chesterfrench.com." Topping off the madness are Brooklyn's own art-damaged darlings Les Savy Fav, who will be manning the DJ booth in between sets.
