This is really brilliant. You can view the song as a history of mankind from its early beginnings with cavemen, all the way up to the great civilisations. Not only the lyrics show this interpretation, the music equally reflects it. First you can hear tribal drumming (symbolizing primitive times), which is gradually replaced by electronic drum sounds (for the technological society). Amazing.

Wew. I just recently started to get into Tool and this song really hit me... Anyone knows of other songs that sound similar to this?

Not really similar, but "Disposition" gives me a very chill vibe, much like this one does! Try it :)

Is god willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? The whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? The why call him god..

@pinkfloid I disagree. I think this song is a success. What I listen to mostly these days is electronic music, and Tool. I thought the IDM beat at the end was cool. Different, yeah. But if you listen to it a bunch of times it sticks.

too true pinkfloid, it always seemed to me like they tried to force this album too much. on top of going so mainstream with 10k days... it just doesn't feel like they put as much thought behind their sound here compared to earlier albums. and those over-analytical "fans" were a lot fewer and far between before this album also. i miss that... haha
