I've been doing a new series of journals on songs by length. It's been a lot of fun--stop by if you like. Is it the frozen north yet? I didn't mind the east coast winters at all, and loved the snow, but I hated the way winter would hang on until April sometimes.

Mid 80s was a great time for music, although almost all of the best stuff was non-mainstream. I've been digging on the AV Club's Popless all year: http://www.avclub.com/content/taxonomy%252Ftag%252FPopless?page=2. Less listing, more commentary, and the comments section is surprisingly interesting too.

I moved home to Louisiana five years ago, but Philly is my favorite "other" place I've ever lived. The live music was a big part of it--used to be able to walk to most of the venues, although it's rather more spread out now. Johnny Brenda's would be a bit of a hike from S. 11th. I used to love the dive bars in that neighborhood: the Locust, Frank's, McGlinchy's were sort of the holy trinity. I've since quit drinking, but I had some good times in those holes. Great neighborhood.

Thanks for stopping by. So how do you like Philly? I lived at 9th and Pine for 5 years (99-03 inclusive) and loved it. I probably couldn't afford to live there anymore, though--all my friends who still live there moved to West Philly.

Yes, you can bring beer to the Church. Just keep it in a paper bag.

In the US now? Welcome back! And you're going to the Wedding Present? I'm officially jealous. They just played somewhat near me (Boston, and I live in Maine), but it was impossible to juggle everything and make it down there. Too far when I have to work the next day.
