Toonami is the name of a block of cartoons and anime that play on Cartoon Network during a specific time-slot. Toonami began in 1997, but did not become the format that it was most known for until 1999 when they introduced the host TOM. The block was originally retired in September of 2008 after 11.5 years on the air, but then officially returned in May of 2012.
