The 12 finalists from the 2008 series of The X Factor, a British television music talent show joined together for the first time to perform a cover of the Mariah Carey 1993 hit 'Hero' to raise money for the The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and Forces charity Help for Heroes. Proceeds from the track will be divided equally between Help for Heroes and the Poppy Appeal. The track was performed live on the show on Saturday 25th October 2008, and was made available for download from midnight that night and will then hit the shops on October 27th, just two weeks before Remembrance Sunday.

Series 5 finalists of the X Factor recorded the single ‘Hero’ (originally by Mariah Carey). The single was released in November 2008 to raise money for Help For Heroes, a charity which helps provide support for wounded servicemen and women, and went straight to #1 and to date has sold over 770,000 copies and raised over £1 million pounds. The contestants were as follows: Girls: Alexandra Burke, Diana Vickers & Laura White. Boys: Eoghan Quigg, Austin Drage & Scott Bruton. Groups: JLS, Girlband & Bad Lashes. Over 25s: Ruth Lorenzo, Rachel Hylton & Daniel Evans.
