Thirteen was released in April of 2008, and is the first studio album of Michelle Dockrey and Tony Fabris working as a duo.
The songs are mostly related to sci-fi, fantasy, or mythology, and each song has some sort of story to tell. The album's overall style is acoustic folk music, occasionally pushing into folk/rock and hard rock styles.
During the year leading up to the album's release, Vixy's & Tony's most popular song was Mal's Song. Vixy is a fan of Firefly, and always felt that its theme song sounded like a great chorus to a song, but wasn't a complete song yet, and it desperately needed some verses. So she wrote some. The result is a full-length song that feels complete, has a catchy sing-along chorus that everyone knows, and which resonates deeply with all Browncoats. The song is frequently mistaken for being the "actual full version" of the show's theme song. The truth is that the theme that plays on the TV show credits is the entire theme song, so Mal's Song is technically a medley of the TV theme and Vixy's verses.
Another Firefly song on the album, Apprentice, features percussion and violin playing by guest performer Alexander James Adams.
One of the songs on the album, Emerald Green, won a Pegasus award before the album was even completed.
The song Strange Messenger was a surprise hit from this album. It is based on the obscure story of Humboldt's Parrot.
