Australia's king of bitter-sweet piano pop, Tim Freedman, decamped to New York in early 2004 to write new songs and duly came back with half a double album. Little Cloud, The Whitlam's sixth studio album and first double effort, switches between NY and the familiar territory of Newtown, Sydney, with its twilight people. The result was a very strong collection of catchy, angsty but sometimes blackly humorous songs that bear favourable comparison with anything else the band has produced.
