"Spider in the Snow" is the fourth track on Emergency & I. An earlier demo recording was also released on the 1998 The Ice of Boston EP. Co-producer Chad Clark wanted the recording on Emergency & I to have real strings, as opposed to the Casio strings on the final song. Travis Morrison fought with Chad over this decision, as he hated the idea of using real strings because he found it "too fancy" and that there was a beauty in the artificial strings.
