"You Were on My Mind" is a song written by Canadian singer and songwriter Sylvia Fricker in 1962. It was originally performed by Fricker and her then future husband Ian Tyson as the duo Ian & Sylvia. The duo recorded it in 1963 for their 1964 album, Northern Journey. They re-recorded the song in 1972 with as the band Ian & Sylvia & The Great Speckled Bird.

Sylvia Tyson, CM (born 19 September 1940 in Chatham, Ontario), is a Canadian musician, performer, singer-songwriter and broadcaster. She is best known as one half of the folk duo Ian & Sylvia, with her then husband Ian Tyson, from 1959–1975. Since 1993, she has been a member of the all-female folk group Quartette. Tyson was made a member of the Order of Canada in 1994. She was nominated seven times for a Juno Award, the first being in 1987 as Country Female Vocalist of the Year. In 2003, she was inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame.
