I think this song is about the one girl that Syd loved. He had alot of girlfriends but only had one girl who he almost married. I think this song is mostly about the time that their families had a party to celebrate the engagement. But at the same time it might be about when Syd would go to Pink Floyd shows and parties and ignore the old friends he use to have. There are many accounts of how he would go to the shows and stand at the front and just stare at David Gilmour for the whole show. I think with Syd's lyrics he can seem to talk about one subject but to him he might be telling you about 5 or 6. We will never know because he never explained his songs. Anyways, I love this and all his songs so much. As life goes on for me I find new meanings in them and they are always fresh and I cant say anyone else really sounds anything like him.
