I find this genre intriguing and I'm barely scratching the surface, and these are the albums I've checked out so far.

My Bloody Valentine- Loveless


My introduction to the genre and it is a complete masterpiece. This is not the easiest album to get into. It required me at least 3 or 4 listens to finally begin to comprehend. The production makes the music sound very dense and a lot of the melodies have to be found. Give this one time if you don't enjoy it right away. It is a highly rewarding album that will give nearly endless enjoyment. This is regarded as one of the best albums of the 90's with good reason.

Alcest- Souvenirs d'un Autre Monde


I have some trouble even describing this album to people. It mixes in some of Alcest's old black metal influence that you can hear with the guitar. They create that "wall of sound" that becomes one of the focal points in the album. The atmosphere this album creates is in a class of its own. Vocals and guitar work are sublime, the arrangements near perfect, and the some of the album drips with bits of melancholy that makes it that much better. A must own album and my favorite album from 2007.

Probably the second most popular shoegaze band next to MBV. Although their style certainly differs and definitely have their own niche within the genre. This is more in line with Alcest's chilled out atmosphere, but has a very ethereal and "spacey" sound. The vocals are a mix of female and male, l
