Samson (Danny Verbiest) and Gert (Gert Verhulst) are the two main characters of the famous Belgian TV show called 'Samson en Gert'. Samson and Gert live together at house number 101. Notable major characters in this show are barber Albert Vermeersch, the alleged opera singer Alberto Vermicelli ('Meneer Spaghetti' as Samson calls him), chairman of gymnastics club 'De Spieren Los' Octaaf de Bolle ('Meneer de Raaf' as Samson calls him), grocery shopkeeper Jeannine de Bolle ('Mevrouw Praline' as Samson calls her), the town mayor Meneer de Burgemeester (first name Modest) and the major's secretary Eugene van Leemhuyzen ('Meneer van Veelluizen' or 'Meneer van Vleermuizen' as Samson calls him).
Former recurring town characters were neighbour Joop Mengelmoes ('Meneer van Vleermuizen' as Samson calls him), Miranda de Bolle ('Veranda' as Samson calls her), Sophie ('Meneer van Vleermuizen' as Samson calls her), Frieda Kroket, the representative of the Minister (of Internal Affairs). Or characters as Marlène, Bobientje, Jean-Louis-Michel, Fred Kroket, Marie without screen time.
In 2005 Danny Verbiest left Studio 100, the production house behind Samson & Gert, and was replaced by Peter Thyssen. He in his turn was followed Dirk Bosschaert in 2013.
Some famous phrases of these TV shows are
"Aja, ik moest kloppen want de bel doet het niet"(I had to knock cause the bell doesn't work) and
"Ten eerste is het Alberto, en ten tweede.."(In the first place it's Albertó, and secondly..).
"Aan allen die gekomen zijn: Proficiat. Aan allen die niet gekomen zijn: ook proficiat"(To everyone who came: Congratulations. To everyone who hasn't come: Also congratulations)
