“Gimme” is the third single for Sam Smith’s fourth studio album, Gloria. It’s the second collaboration between Sam and Canadian singer and songwriter Jessie Reyez on the album, the other track being “Perfect”. It also features Koffee, an up-and-coming reggae and raggamuffin artist from Jamaica.
On the track, the singers are vocal about desiring a significant other over a minimalistic tropical pop beat with some tongue-in-cheek, erotic lyrism, asking their partners to give them what they want, in this case, sex.
Sam and Jessie have previously collaborated on their 2018 hit, “Promises” with Calvin Harris.
Sam teased the song on December 6, 2022, uploading a snippet of it on social media and announced the release date on January 6, 2023.
“I’m a sexual person, I like sex. It’s something I’m teaching myself to not be ashamed of. Me and Jessie were basically drunk, drinking whisky in Jamaica, two in the morning, running around absolutely wasted, like two girlfriends having a laugh, it’s a very sensual song.“
