I have homework. I'm procrastinating okay.

Name your top 10 most played bands on Last.fm:

    1. Bright Eyes
    2. Radiohead
    3. The Arcade Fire
    4. Rufus Wainwright
    5. 関ジャニ∞
    6. The Clash
    7. BUMP OF CHICKEN
    8. The Decemberists
    9. The Constantines
    10. Iron & Wine

Now answer the questions according to the numbers:

What was the first song you ever heard by 6? (The Clash)
Probably PlayLondon Calling or PlayShould I Stay or Should I Go on the radio. I used to listen to the radio a lot.

What is your favorite album by 2? (Radiohead)
Recently, it's been Pablo Honey possibly just because of PlayYou

What is your favorite lyric that 5 has sung? (関ジャニ∞)
Umm, haha. Probably "Sono te wo hanasanaide" from Misetekure. But "WAHAHA" comes in at a close second?

How many times have you seen 4 live? (Rufus Wainwright)
Once, at a folk festival. He was jet-lagged and adorable.

What is your favorite song by 7? (BUMP OF CHICKEN)
I really like supernova and Stage of the ground. They are so triumphant! :D

What is a good memory you have involving 10? (Iron & Wine)
I'll be honest here; the only reason Iron & Wine is even on this list is because I like to fall asleep to them. I have watched fireworks while listening to them on my iPod though and it was nice.

Is there a song by 3 that makes you sad? (The Arcade Fire)
    In the Backseat still.

What is your favorite lyric that 2 has sung? (Radiohead)
This is a fucking hard question because Radiohead lyrics are amazing. It's also really hard for me to differentiate my love for a song and my love for the lyrics, in Radiohead's case. I really enjoy "I'll be waiting with a gun and a pack of sandwiches" from PlayTalk Show Host.

What is your favorite song by 9? (The Constantines)
saint you or PlayGoodbye Baby & Amen.

How did you get in to 3? (The Arcade Fire)
I got asked this last time. Yeah, my brother was into them and I stole his music all the time.

What was the first song you heard by 1? (Bright Eyes)
Lover I Don't Have to Love on the radio. I loved it then and I still love it.

What is your favorite song by 4? (Rufus Wainwright)
I can never decide, but one I really like is PlayThe One You Love.

How many time have you seen 9 live? (The Constantines)
Never, but I've heard they are AWESOME live.

What is a good memory you have involving 2? (Radiohead)
No real memories I don't think. I would have given up a limb to have seen them at Lollapalooza last summer, but I don't know anyone who deals in that sort of currency.

Is there a song by 8 that makes you sad? (The Decemberists)
Yeah, The Engine Driver and The Bagman's Gambit come to mind.

What is your favorite album of 5? (関ジャニ∞)
So obviously, it's not really an album. But I have a rip of one of their concerts (Heat Up) and it's what I listen to the most. They are so much better live.

What is your favorite lyric that 3 has sung? (The Arcade Fire)
Again, this is really hard. I'm going to say something different than I did last time. "The windows are locked now so what'll it be?/A house on fire or a rising sea?" from Windowsill.

What is your favorite song by 1? (Bright Eyes)
I swear they've all been my favorite at some point.

What is your favorite song by 10? (Iron & Wine)
    PlayFever Dream or PlayJezebel.

How many times have you seen 8 live? (The Decemberists)
    Zero T_T

What is your favorite album by 1? (Bright Eyes)
Still cannot answer this question. I probably listen to Lifted or The Story is in the Soil Keep Your Ear to the Ground the most, though.

What is a good memory you have involving 9? (The Constantines)
Screaming "CAN I HAVE A WITNESS?" with my brother.

What was the first song you heard by 8? (The Decemberists)
We Both Go Down Together on my friend's mix in her car.

What is your favorite cover by 2? (Radiohead)
I was recommended their cover of Carly Simon's PlayNobody Does It Better and it was really good. Thom Yorke intros it as "the sexiest song that was ever written" and he's probably got one of the sexiest voices ever to...voice. So yeah. It's sexy.

Now I have to find something else to do instead of homework.
  • MrWinczakos - we haven't forgot about you!

ps3 will there be another mighty troll just like him and R.I.P. Octember (also known as Strictly Diesel) and Pagan_Winter (also known as - too many names, cant remember them all)? who knows. maybe someday.

  • It's been over a year since my last confession ...

    31 Aug 2008, 05:14 by DontLetsStart

Wow, it's been longer than I thought since I wrote anything here. Between my real job (nerd superstar) and second job (WoW addict) I've just been too busy to be arsed. It's been that long actually that my hair has grown to the length you see in my profile picture in the meantime. I'm a real long haired hippie now (or André Rieu's love child, you be judge).

The site sure is different these days, and honestly I don't know why people are so upset over the layout. The layout in general is fine, probably better than it was. The fact the site in no way fits the whole "social music revolution" it used to upsets me far more. Journals, forums and groups are very much pushed to the background. As my third job is forum troll, this obviously upsets me. Shoutboxes are all well and good, but I'm too old to be part of the myfacespacebook generation or something and so have the quaint idea that real communication comes in paragraphs and with coherent thoughts.

Anyway I'm going to pretend this is about music rather than just bitching at how shit the site is these days. So a few recent purchases:

    The Herd - Summerland (2008)

A bit of a "I really should get into aussie hip-hop more, so this'll do for something to buy" purchase. Lukewarm on my first listen but I think I need to absorb the lyrics a bit more, so I wont make a judgement either way yet.

The Grates - Teeth Lost, Hearts Won (2008)

I love their debut album, and in keeping with how out of touch with reality I am, hadn't realised they released a follow up until earlier in the week. Unfortunately it really does fall into the trap a lot of second efforts do, where it just feels like the band is trying too hard and not having enough fun. This album loses the charm of Gravity Won't Get You High and tries to make up for it with noise, and falls well short. It's not a horrible album by any stretch of the imagination, but I'd say it was a pretty big disappointment to listen to.

    Rufus Wainwright - Poses (2001)

Been meaning to pick something of his up for a while. The album seems nice enough, but since I often listen to music while I work, it really had the effect of just fading into the background. I think I was about 10 minutes from the end before I suddenly realised I'd listened to most of the album without hearing much of it. Maybe it'll catch on later, but usually being completely ignorable is not a good sign.

O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000)

I think I've bought more soundtracks than I've watched movies in the last couple of years. Never seen the movie, but like the music, and it was in the bargain bin so I grabbed it. It drew the reaction of "what is this shit that you're listening to?" from my partner, and given he's a Kylie and Madonna fan, I consider the fact that he hates it to be a ringing endorsement.

Ugly Duckling - Bang for the Buck (2006)

I consider any album where on the first listen you're singing along (with PlayYudee!) to have something going for it. If there's an "idm" genre, surely there should be an "ihm" genre for intelligent hip-hop like this that isn't all bling and bitches.

    Neil DiamondHome Before Dark (2008)

The sign that I'm buting Neil Diamond albums surely means it can't be long before I'll be old enough to be shopping in the easy listening section. I'm not even going to try to defend myself against that truism. However, the songs on this album are generally well written and performed with sincerity, even if the track PlayThe Power Of Two naturally invokes completely the wrong images for a math geek like me.

Anyway, it's starting to get completely too annoying to type in this tiny journal entry box they provide us with (despite the fact I said I'd stop bitching, I just can't) so I'll leave it there. Maybe next time I'll get around to adding some commentary of value rather than just a "shit I happened to take home from the score with a paragraph of crap" list.

OK, so this is not my idea, I saw it somewhere else, I think it was in a Last.fm group and I liked the idea, the randomness... so let's see.

    1. How did you get into 29? Daft Punk
I was in High School and PlayAround the World was getting a serious amount of airplay on MTV that year (back when MTV was still good). I loved the concept of the video, I've always loved Michel Gondry's work, and the tune blew my mind so I decided to give 'Homework' a shot. It got me hooked.

    2. What was the first song you ever heard by 22? Yael Naïm
    PlayNew Soul

    3. How many albums by 13 do you own? Cat Power
Three: The Covers Record, The Greatest and Jukebox.

    4. What is your favorite song by 15? Portishead
Hmm... that's a though one. I guess it would have to be either PlayRoads or PlayOver. Although I can't keep PlaySilence (off the latest album) off my head.

    5. What is your favorite song by 5? Beirut
    That's easy! Cliquot.

    6. Is there a song by 6 that makes you happy? Yann Tiersen
Definitely, yes. Two, actually: PlayJ'y Suis Jamais Allé and PlayA quai.

    7. What is your favorite song by 10? Goldfrapp
If I have to pick just one: PlayNumber 1. But this is just so unfair, so I will pick one more: PlayA&E.

    8. What is a good memory you have involving 30? Camille
Just finding about her music and being amazed by the beauty of Le fil. C'est magnifique!

    9. Is there a song by 19 that makes you happy? Stephen Fretwell
No! At least, not in the sense of a tune being uplifting, but in that of allowing myself to be amazed by such beauty in his compositions. Because realizing that such beauty exists makes me happy.

    10. How many times have you seen 25 live? Death Cab for Cutie
    Uhm. None...

    11. What is the first song you ever heard by 23? The Knife
    PlayHeartbeats

    14. Have you ever seen 14 live? Sufjan Stevens
    No, but I'm dying to.

    15. What is a good memory involving 27? Carla Bruni

    16. What is your favorite song by 16? Air
    PlayYou Make It Easy Beautiful.

    17. What is your favorite album by 18? Ely Guerra

I would also have to say elaeudanla téïtéïa.

    19. What is the first song you ever heard by 26? Tori Amos
Wow, can't really remember. I guess it was a cover... her version of 'PlayEnjoy the Silence'. I found it excruciating. But then I heard what she did on the 'Great expectations' soundtrack. Bravo.

    20. What is your favorite album by 2? Madonna
It's not fair!!! Fuck it, I don't have just one: Confessions On A Dancefloor, Music and Ray of Light. But I also love the underrated American Life.

    21. What is you favorite song by 3? Radiohead
PlayStreet Spirit (Fade Out) and PlayLucky.

    24. What is the worst song by 12? Björk
Well, I'd like to say none, but she does have some avant-garde shit which I don't totally understand, most of it on Medulla. But I can't name a specific track.

    25. What was the first song you ever heard by 28? The White Stripes
Fell in Love With a Girl, and I fell in love with them. My best friend said they 'being just another of those garage bands, won't be around for too long. They're a one hit wonder'... ha ha ha... wrong.

Easy: Violator. (Them, I have seen live, by the way).

    27. What is your favorite song by 24? Kleerup

    Yes: Here Comes the Sun.

    29. What is your favorite album by 4? Feist

    1. How did you get into 29?

    You're an answering machine
    - from Answering Machine

    4. How did you get into 49?

I would put a text box right here, but unfortunately, this so-called HTML system doesn't let me use [textarea]. It was to put the unfilled out questions in there for your convenience. If you wanna do this, you're just going to have to copy paste it yourself.
