Biography
Rollo & King were a Danish pop/rock duo consisting of two former school teachers, Søren Poppe and Stefan Nielsen. Their biggest hits - including "Ved du hvad hun sagde?" and "Der står et billede af dig på mit bord" - all feature additional lead vocals by Signe Svendsen, who, contrary to popular belief, was never an official member of the group.
In 2000, Rollo & King released their debut single "Ved du hvad hun sagde?", which became the biggest hit of the year in Denmark, topping the Danish singles chart for 10 consecutive weeks from August to October 2000. Similarly, their debut album released in November 2000, Midt i en løbetid, was a major commercial success despite very poor critical reviews.
In 2001, they competed in the Danish National Song Contest in a bid to represent Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest 2001. Despite finishing second to Basix in the professional jury vote, their entry "Der står et billede af dig på mit bord", received top marks from all televoting regions, winning the competition with 58 out of a possible 60 points.
For their subsequent participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, Rollo & King recorded an English-language version of their entry, titled "Never Ever Let You Go", which eventually finished 2nd out of 23 entries.
Later that year, they released their second album, Det nye kuld, which received only a fraction of its predecessor's success.
Rollo & King disbanded in 2002. They have reunited for a few one-off performances over the years, most recently in 2014, when they formed part of the interval act in the Danish National Song Contest.
