Oliver Shanti & FriendsBiography
Oliver Shanti (Born Ulrich Schulz 16 November 1948 in Hamburg), later known as Oliver Serano-Alve, is a New Age musician. His group “Oliver Shanti & Friends” has recorded several CD’s, including “Circles Of Life” - The Best Of Oliver Shanti (1997), “Tai Chi”, “Seven Times Seven, “Alhambra”, “Listening To The Heart”, “Medicine Power”, and “Rainbow Way”
Two tracks by Oliver Shanti & Friends were featured in the Buddha Bar compilations: “Onion Mweng (Rainbird)” in the Buddha Bar II compilation produced by Claude Challe and “Sacral Nirvana” in the Buddha Bar III compilation.
August 2002 a German couple alerted the police on Schulz. They reported him for the sexual abuse of their son. After that the flood gates opened and the gravity of the case became apparent. The German investigation authorities have collected some 1000 individual cases of sexual abuse, many of them dealing with children. Germany then issued a warrant for his arrest, with a €3,000 (US$4,700) reward. He was referred to as a “very dangerous” and potentially violent suspect. Shanti went missing at that time, and was reported to be living secretly in Germany or its adjacent countries.
Lateron an e-fit picture was issued by the German police. It circulated to police throughout Spain, showing him with a trimmed beard and shorter hair, and again describing him as a “dangerous paedophile”. Hope was that his poor health would give them a lead. Schulz is known to take Seroxat and Lithium, two anti-depressant prescription drugs. Spanish chemist shops were alerted and asked to report anyone fitting Schulz’s description trying to purchase such medication.
On June 28, 2008 Schultz was arrested in Lisbon, at age 59. He had been living in Portugal’s northern city of Vila Nova de Cerveira for years, on the border with Spain. He had used several of the pseudonyms he was known to go by before. Schulz was regarded a distinguished resident and had received the local honor of a medal of merit. He had donated vehicles to the local fire department and gifted the town with a sculpture of a deer, the village’s symbol.
Schulz is accused of 111 reported counts of suspected pedophilia, and likely to be extradited to Germany (update July 2-‘08).
