Solely for the release of “Heaven’s Open”, his final album for Virgin Records, Mike Oldfield chose to go by his full name. Since he is always known as “Michael” to his family, friends and colleagues, it has been speculated that this was a deliberate jab at Virgin for persuading him to go by the more casual “Mike” on his first and subsequent albums.

The cover of Heaven’s Open is certainly an in-joke aimed at the former boss of Virgin Records; Richard Branson’s own suggestion for the album that came to be known as Tubular Bells was to call it Breakfast In Bed and use a cover picture of a boiled egg with blood coming out of it.
