Matthew Levine's musical interests are equally divided between classical, jazz, and pop music. A graduate of the University of Houston under composition professor Robert Nelson, he has had pieces published in all three genres. He won first place in the 2003 Louisa Stude Serofim Composition Contest, undergraduate division, for his String Quartet No. 1, The Prophet of Shiraz., and has won top awards in seven national songwriting competitions, including four prizes for his gospel song, A Home That Forever Will Stand.
