Her first principal harpist position, at the Nice Opera, was earned just two years later. She was educated at the Curtis Institute, has been principal harpist of the Metropolitan Opera under James Levine, and was appointed by Claudio Abbado as the principal harpist of the Berlin Philharmonic in 1993.
