Manic developed a passion for music at a young age. In 1986, he received three cassette tapes for his seventh birthday that changed his life forever.

Two of the three were Hip Hop artists LL Cool J and Salt N Peppa. Manic was instantly hooked on this new style of music and began collecting as much as he could find. Two years later, he moved with his family to upstate New York where his obsession with Hip Hop grew even stronger.

Over the next ten years he was exposed to the present-day legends of Hip Hop including Public Enemy, Boogie Down Productions and EPMD. By 1997, Manic could no longer just listen to the music but felt the need to contribute in some form. Since he could not afford a sampler or turntables, Manic began to teach himself to scratch using an all-in-one unit that included a double tape deck, radio and turntable on top. With only one record, which he found in an alley, Manic would scratch over various Hip Hop and instrumentals played through a boom box.

In 2002, Manic was finally ready to take the next step in furthering his skills by purchasing an MPC sampler. Fast-forward to 2007 and we see the release of Manic’s debut EP aptly titled 1986 on Summer Rain Recordings. Many have already compared his songs to the likes of Dj Shadow, Bonobo and Dj Krush, which Manic takes in stride. “Those guys are incredible at what they do and any comparisons are a stretch in my opinion but very flattering regardless. I just want to make music that I like and hopefully it will hit people the way Public Enemy or De La Soul hit me.”
