  • Podsumowanie płyt roku 2008

    7 Jan 2009, 13:13 by Cim85

Children of Bodom - Blooddrunk. Po świetnej (jak dla mnie) Are You Dead Yet? z 2005 roku oczekiwałem, że CoB znowu skopie mi tyłek, a niestety zaprzestałem na trzech przesłuchaniach, bo nie słyszałem w niej nic ciekawego.

Dagoba - Face The Colossus. I kolejne chyba zbyt wygórowane oczekiwanie.

Disturbed - Indestructible. Cholera no. Albo mam zbyt wygórowane oczekiwania albo naprawdę te zespoły nie potrafią nagrać już dobrego albumu. Dziesięć Tysięcy Pięści to jedna z moich ulubionych płyty ever, a nowa (mimo przymuszania się do polubienia jej) mi nie wpadła. Szkoda, bo Disturbed bardzo lubię.

Ill Niño - Enigma. Tu z kolei nie mam słów żadnych. Revolution Revolución genialne, Confession bardzo słabe, One Nation Underground o jeden punkcik lepsze niż Spowiedź, no i Enigma. Chyba nawet gorsza niż album #2.

Mudvayne - The New Game. A tutaj to nie wiem co napisać, poza tym, że album jest cienki, bez polotu i nie sięga do stóp L.D. 50 czy Lost and Found.

I ostatnia płytka, która mnie zaskoczyła negatywnie to Soulfly - Conquer. Soulfly i Primitive były genialne.

No to teraz sprawy przyjemniejsze, czyli najlepsze płyty roku 2008.

Cavalera Conspiracy - Inflikted. Good job brothers!

Panie i Panowie: Machine Head - The Blackening Special Edition. W skład SE wchodzi płytka podstawowa z dwoma bonusowymi coverami (Iron Maiden i Metallica - swoją drogą świetne covery), płytka bonusowa z niepublikowanymi wcześniej wałkami, demami, live'ami itp no i płytka DVD z występami na żywo (11 wałków z 4 różnych lokacji), teledyskami "PlayHalo", "PlayNow I Lay Thee Down" i "PlayAesthetics of Hate" oraz "mejking ofy" do tychże klipów. Czyli jednym słowem wydanie profesjonalne z płytkami wypchanymi po brzegi. Każdy zespół powinien wydawać takie płytki.

Slipknot - All Hope Is Gone. Taaaaak.

Jeden wałek wpadł mi w głowę i przez 2 tygodnie słuchałem go non-stop.

W nowym roku oczekuję płytki Rammstein, Killswitch Engage i oczywiście Chimaira.

  • My Musical Life

    6 Jan 2009, 20:08 by icarus4321

My first memories of music are from the late 80's. My dad played guitar and bass in a band and spent a fair amount of time listening to rock music. I would always watch him and his band play and I developed a strong tie to music from that early point. They played all kinds of stuff from Ted Nugent, Rush, Van Halen, etc. I always had a guitar of my own lying around when I was young, but never really thought about seriously playing until many years later. In the early 90's, my dad was focused more on his career than music, so I was exposed to far less music at that point. I became really interested in metal through Whitesnake at a very young age (somehow obtained the self-titled cassette when I was 3), but it took nearly ten years for my knowledge of the genre to grow any further. I always showed promise as a musician. When I was in elementary school, I could listen to a song and sit down at a piano and learn it without any training of any sort. However, I never found lessons particularly interesting, so it never went any further than that. Through the 90's, my focus was solely on sports; however, a drunk driver crashed through my bedroom and caused a chronic back injury that ended any chance that I would have to play basketball, baseball, or football. At that point, I rekindled my love for music, as it was a great outlet for my anger and all of the extra time that I had on my hands.

Like many others, Metallica was the first band that I really connected to. My dad had a few Metallica and Ozzy albums, and I spent my time listening to them almost exclusively. I decided to give the guitar another shot and really found a new passion. Once I started playing, my development really took off. I would play anwhere from 3-6 hours a day throughout high school. My focus was still primarily on classic metal though: Metallica, Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera. At this point, one of my fellow guitar students suggested that I give Dream Theater a chance. Knowing my musical focus, he said that I was guaranteed to love them. A few weeks later, I was paging through the Best Buy ad and saw that a new live DT album was due to come out. I decided that I would check it out and went to pick it up. However, when I got there it had been pulled from the shelves (it was the Live Scenes from New York that was pulled due to the burning NY skyline image directly after 9/11). I decided to get the DVD version instead and I was amazed at the musicianship of these guys. It was really DT that helped me branch out and become more open-minded within my musical personality.

I worked at a Schmitt Music for my last two years of high school. The guys that I worked with at the music store really helped me develop an interest in classical guitar and progressive rock. One of the guitar teachers had recorded some covers of early Kansas and Genesis songs that were really cool, and we had a bunch of nylon stringed guitars and instructional books that I would work on when it wasn't busy. I branched in a ton of directions at this point. I listened mostly to work by Tarrega, Metallica, Dream Theater, Ozzy, Slayer, Pantera, Megadeth, Thrice, Atreyu, Boysetsfire, and Coheed and Cambria.

When I went to college, I unfortunately had less time to focus on my music and my guitar playing has sufferred because of it. I've discovered a core group of bands that I listen to, but I attempt to keep an incredibly open mind when it comes to new music.

Here's a list of albums that have really shaped my musical identity:

Boring day, nothing to do, so I decided to try this... (shame my 1st journal entry seems like a total waste of time, but it sounded like fun to me :P).
    Got it from polkageeks.

'First, make a list of your overall top-20 artists. Then, for each of these artists, add the 8 most similar artists to your list. Delete any duplicates, add up the number of entries on your list and this will give you some idea of how eclectic your listening habits are. A score of 9 represents an extremely unvaried musical taste while a 160 represents an extremely varied one.'

najo, lassan elkezdem irni a következö bejegyzést.
