5 years of hype would be hard for any album to live up to. That, plus compared to the mainstream splash that DAMN. was, Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers was low-key and introspective, even uncomfortable at points. Besides like, 3 songs (N95, Silent Hill, and maybe Count Me Out,) there isn’t much in the way of radio friendly bops. I think some people had just gotten tired of Kendrick’s reclusiveness and him being unwilling to just give us a body of work that you don’t have to think too hard about while listening. Idk, just my 2 cents.

You’re 100% correct, honestly tho especially when Kendrick has made something like tpab which was not very accessible relative to gkmc and later damn, they shouldn’t have been surprised when the new album wasn’t either especially given how much has changed in the world over his hiatus (Kendrick was always going to come with an album that was more introspective than damn). Even then tho N95, Rich Spirit, Silent Hill, Count me out, Mr. Morale etc are all very accessible so I feel like people haven’t given this album enough of a chance and have only focused on the tracks like Auntie Diaries and Mother I Sober for their reasons not enjoying the album and not coming back to the bangers

People wanted him smoking on top 5's and instead he made his most uncomfortable and inaccessible album yet, I really just think that it pushed the limits of a lot of Hip-Hop heads and they were disappointed because it wasn't what they wanted it to be, which is always a stupid thing to me because nobody should ever have a pre-conceived vision of what somebody's artistic vision should be like, especially with someone like Kendrick.

It hasn’t even been two years, I have dust bunnies in my basement older than this album. How badly could it have aged?

This album is incredibly beautiful. It might not be his best work, but that will never deny how incredibly introspective and vulnerable kendrick is on this record

I never hated this album by any means, but I feel like I didn't show it enough love and was slightly underwhelmed by it. I bumped it again for the first time in like a year, and I gotta say it really clicked in all departments for me. Super personal and introspective as always, and a nice handful of bangers still. It's right up there with all of his other work

Yeah for me N95, Rich Spirit, Count Me Out, Silent Hill and Die Hard are constantly being thrown into the songs I bang in the car. He achieved making a front to back immersive concept album with songs that you can throw in just to vibe to. It’s really a amazing balance and I’m sure everyone has a different list of songs that they love to bang outside of front to back listens.

It's a common case for a lot of albums that release nowadays and it pisses me off. People don't understand you can't make a judgment on an album from listening to it a couple times the day it drops. You gotta let art breathe for a bit and see how it is once the dust settles.

Because you haven't even listened to the album bruh. And if you want to say it's cause you didnt scrobble it then why not? when you clearly like scrobbling and do quite a lot of it. And how many times have you listened to it if you have? Enough times to form valid thoughts and feelings on it beyond a rough first impression??
