“Gold” was the second promotional single released for Imagine Dragons‘ sophomore album, Smoke + Mirrors. Following the upbeat, charming rhythm of album-opener “Shots,” we are introduced to the darker, more sinister motifs that make up a vast majority of the album’s sound. Lyrically, “Gold” references Greek mythology and warns of the consequences of fame and fortune. With a broken and wicked sound, “Gold” also sees the return of the band’s signature style that lets the drums do the talking.
