Biography

Originally released in 1987 when Cabaret Voltaire were in the throws of their most artistically restricted period, having signed to EMI, "Hoodoo Talk" was a cathartic exercise for Cabs musical driving force Richard H Kirk.Kirk, no stranger to side projects, having at the time of "Hoodoo Talk" already racked up 4 solo albums and about to form the inspirational Sweet Exorcist, teamed-up with fellow Sheffielder, and former member of The Box - Peter Hope for this cathartic release.

The album itself, whilst unmistakably the work of the Kirk, has an added much darker, starker edge thanks to the vocals of Hope, who toured during the album as support to the Cabs. The collaboration initially spawned the single, Leather Hands.

This album is to this day the only example of Kirk utilising anyone other than Stephen Mallinder for vocals, though reducing it to such a trivia point is to vastly overlook its own worth. "Hoodoo Talk" features two previously unavailable tracks and is released through The Grey Area of Mute as part of its extensive catalogue of Cabaret Voltaire and connected releases.
