Last year I cited the BBC, "Unless something goes badly awry with the upward curve in the general quality of pop music that began in 2002 and banked sharply skywards in 2006, then 2007 ought to be the greatest year for singles since records and records began." and added that, "Ironically, in the age of the disappearing singles market, the quality of the singles themselves have hardly ever been in a healthier state." - A statement which, thankfully, still rings true a year later.
