OF ANTI-LULLABIES AND WALTZING WITH VAMPIRES

Hannah Fury was born in a land of glittering white snow and dark, foreboding forests. When she was five years old, she moved to a land of perpetual sunshine and reflective sand. Though she enjoyed this new environment and found it beautiful in a conspicuous sort of way, she missed the cryptic and mercurial quality of her homeland.

As she grew older, Hannah became increasingly aware of the disparity between her inner world and that of the “real” one which surrounded her. To counteract the effects of this fractured existence, she began to dabble in the occult, the extrasensory, and the covert. Her efforts consisted mainly of attempting (mostly unsucessfully) to summon spirits, to levitate objects, and (with a higher rate of success) to concoct formulations for invisible ink. She became adept at code breaking and espionage as well as numerous other activities of questionable value.

During all of her formative years, Hannah also took refuge in books, immersing herself in fantasy worlds and the enviable lives of others. By the age of ten, she had read every Nancy Drew mystery and every torrid Harlequin romance novel ever published, as well as a substantial selection of classic literature.

Yeah, 250,000 plays, and we're not even that many listeners. It means that each individual have listened to her A LOT - which is not that usual, really. Not from my experience anyway.

I've just discovered you my dear. It's beautiful music. It really really is. Amazing combination of fantasy, darkwave and realism...all combined to make some sort of twisted romantic / deadly fairytale :D

Kunitsune, the MellowTraumatic web site is the only place where the flowery writings of Kansas and Eudora appear officially. Pages set up for my music elsewhere (Last.fm, Wikipedia, etc.) were set up by people I don't even know. On the MT site, the bio text is buried deep in the "diversions" section, as are photos and other superfluous nonsense. I did not post this text on Last.fm; someone else did. In the future, when I find the time, I may change what others have posted, but in general I think that writing about music is, as a wise man once said, "like dancing about architecture." With six (or is it seven?) internets to choose from, and what with free downloads, streaming clips, etc., it's so easy to just listen. And for those who like to read descriptive texts, I have included lots of reviews and quotes at mellowtraumatic.com -- written by actual music journalists who are much better at describing my music than I am anyway. I hope you'll continue to enjoy the CD. Love, Hannah

Hi there Hannah. I recently got my hands on Through the Gash, and am thoroughly enjoying it so far. You are very talented. Regarding my comments, I meant absolutely no personal offense. I'm entirely aware the desc. was not meant to be serious; I can always appreciate a little verbal dress-up, however when it comes to an artist description, I believe there's a lot to be said for a simple, helpful and informative blurb that introduces you as a musician and tells the uninitiated what to expect from your music. I've made the effort to explore your stuff after reading all the positive input, but many who read your unhelpful (albeit fun-to-read) Wiki may not do the same without more to go on. This is all I meant - nothing "judgemental" as Kalki put it. Peace out Hanna Fury fans... it looks like I may be one of you soon. :)

Thank you Kalki! It is very sweet of you to come to my defense. I think it's really difficult for many people to glean the fact that while the music is serious and real, the promotional ballyhoo is not. Kansas Mayhem and Eudora Splinterglass (who are responsible for the writing on my site where the above bio first appeared) have perfected the art of imparting information while poking the promotion industry in the belly with a long sharp stick. The sad truth is that promotion is the only thing that separates the platinum-selling artists from the independents, so to say that it isn't important would be a lie. It is the very necessity of "promotion" that makes it so ridiculous, so we might as well all have some fun. Love, Hannah

Kunitsune I believe you have mistaken humor for pretentiousness. The bio is intended as entertainment as well as passing along bits and pieces of truthful information. Hannah has not only produced six beautiful and amazing CDs but her written words are some of the most humorous passages that I have ever read. I think you expose yourself to charges of pretentiousness when you come to a fan site and read a short blurb and then make such rash judgments. For those fans out there that have not explored the writings on Hannah's site you should treat yourselves. Here is one link but the site is full of wonderful articles of whimsy and hilarity. http://www.mellowtraumatic.com/news_2006.html Furthermore I do not find her photos "silly" at all. I think they depict the humor and the carnival atmosphere often found in her songs. Hannah is a beautiful creative woman and is in no way deserving of terms such a "silly".

Hannah is such a beautiful artist both figuratively and literally. It is my understanding that she now lives in Philadelphia but it certainly feels as if she resides in my heart. Keep listening DearKrys it just keeps getting better : )

The pretentious description and silly photos are a bit of a turn-off, but by the sounds of it she's an amazing musician. I'll have to check her out.

I have been listening to Hannah for just over a year now. Her music has meant so much to me. I loved it from the start but it is amazing to me how profound, beautiful, and moving it really is. There is not a single song she has released that I do not truly love. I believe her to be an artist without equal.
