Graves
On Tour47,025 plays (2,488 listeners)
Greg Olin used to play in a band called York Roberts. Today, “Graves” is only subtly different from “The Graves”, the nomenclature which accompanied Olin’s debut Love Love Love. The evoltion of the music and the moniker is somewhat telling. Like so many HUSH artists, Olin specializes in a songwriting style which can be reduced to its minimum components — vocal and guitar — and still work. But life is too short and friends/musicians are too plenty not to enhance the writing with a more traditional band sound: drums, bass, keys, horns, etc. With Yes Yes Okay Okay, Olin has discovered a perfect synthesis of intimate songwriting with enhanced, rule breaking instrumentation that one usually associates with the likes of Wilco and others. Perhaps more than ever, Olin’s music sounds like the man behind it: utterly sincere, slightly off kilter, instantly likable. In a way, stripping “The Graves” of “The” is an indicator of the systematic dismantling of pretension that is at work in these songs.

Web Of Dharma is shit. Great disappointment. Is shameful, no comment... and the tag "horror punk"???, that madness. This is a garbage melodique that does not deserve to even be called punk. When I heard the other discs return to destroy them. JE!...However, i respect him for his work on The Misfits, make it clear.

hah dudes messing up the shout box with arguments! back to the music. Graves is a pretty damn good band. they've been around for a while and are far from crappy. But this site doesn't hold the best of their material that much is true.

1) Your music selection suggests that you watch MTV. Sad that I have to repeat myself on that one. 2) Not trying to win any argument. It's too fun fucking with people who don't know two shits about music. Oh, and that last comment really hurt. I'm telling you, I'm really distressed over that one. Another witty comment like that and I'm done for. Perhaps, after you read this and think about it for hours on end, you'll come up with another.

Who says i watch MTV ? I surely didn't. It's funny how folks like you always come up with things like MTV to try and win an argument. As if everyone watches that sad excuse for a music Tv station. On a side note, i agree with what your profile says. You're so full of shit, it should be a crime.

No, it does not change the fact that I've listened to those artists, but just because someone has listened to some artists doesn't make them a listener of those artists. As you have most eloquently put it, Major Difference. Also, I would take crappy indie over crappy-ass pop like Green Day, Silver Chair, RHCP, Flogging Molly, etc. any day. So, do us all a favor and get back to watching MTV.

Danny_Damage wrote:
So, you've listened to over 18.000 songs. Does that change the fact you listen to those artists ? Also, i think if you'd ask who's more pop, Green Day or The Graves, they'd probably ask the WHO?. I agree though, Olin's work isn't crappy Pop. It's crappy Indy. Major difference.

@Danny_Damage: By the way, Kanye West has about 40 plays and snoop dogg has 35. Total, I have 18,850+ scrobbled plays. So, Snoop Dogg and Kanye combined make up less than a third of a percent of my total plays. So if you really want to knock me off my pedestal you would be well advised to at very least aim at a band or two that have at very least over 50 plays.

@Danny_Damage: First of all, I was only commenting on the fact that everyone who had previously commented talked shit on crappy pop music all the while listening to Green Day, and Evanessence which are two of the largest pop bands in the US. In fact, if you were to ask anyone on the street which is more pop Green Day or The Graves, they would reply Green Day.

Bah, i hate having to see Greg Olin's mug every time i play something from Graves. Also, @wooden_indian : As if your musical taste is any better. You listen to Snoop Dog and Kanye West, and YOU want to talk about having an ear for talent ? Someone should kick you off that pedestal you seem to be on and give you a reality check.

Crappy Pop Band? This coming from kids who listen to Evanessence and Green Day. Definitely not surprising that none of you who have previously commented have an ear for talent.
