Formed at the end of 1999, Exsonvaldes has succeeded in imposing in the french musical landscape, throughout a hundred concerts and a handful of records, a strong identity, halfway between darkly lit post-rock and a high-flown pop with chiselled melodies. The band’s musical influences are federative to say the least, from Radiohead to Chokebore or even Nirvana. Nothing unusual there ? Then how come the magic operates in their case to such a degree ? Is it due to a fragility tinged voice, to a wisely established, rare balance between sheer emotion and distorsion ?

“Sons/Silences” in 2001, then “Someday if i want to” in 2002, their two first maxi albums laid the foundations of the Exsonvaldes “style” and enabled the band to appeal to both the critics (Rocksound, Magic, Ubik, Le Mouv, …) and an ever-growing audience throughout their first concerts alongside prestigious names of indie rock like Chokebore or Girls in Hawaii.

With this wealth of experience behind it, the band signed up with the label Noise Digger and brought out its first true album, “Time we spent together” in May 2004.

“A bewitching first album” les Inrockuptibles.

The critics showed enthusiasm (Les Inrocks, Rockmag, Oui fm,…) and concerts multiplied. The band gained maturity and scenic presence alongside the likes of Ghinzu, Autour de Lucie or Girls in Hawaii, in prestigious locations like l’Elysée-Montmartre in Paris or l’Orangerie du Botanique in Brussels, for two sold-out concerts.
