This really is terrifying in the best possible way. Clearly I need to check out some of Ginastera's work.

As far as sheer ambition, musicianship & imaginative interpretation, few mortals have touched this. And few ever will.

Why is ELP or actually any Progressive Band in the Rock Hall of Fame! Basically, they can have RAP and other music, but the Hall is Prejudice against real musicians who play Progressive Music

Some would argue that this is an example of excessive noise/wierdness. Others (such as myself) would state that this is an alternative interpretation of a non traditional classical composition, and rather well done at that. I too saw Carl Palmer play the flying drum kit during the '77 Works tour, Keith Emerson "flipping" his Hammond B3 Console (450 pounds), AND an 84 piece orchestra.

It's an Alberto Ginastera cover. (Adaptation of Ginastera's 1st piano Concerto, 4th movement)

Pretentious is the most used word about ELP by their detractors. I think that this is a great cut from a great album.

I remember witnessing ELP perform this live (I can't think of a more appropriate word than "witness"). It was a mind blowing event, in the unlikeliest location: Stephen F Austin University Colosseum, in Nacodoches, Texas, in 1977. When Emerson started flipping that Hammond around like a play toy, the audience went wild. It left me breathless!

Just to clarify for anyone who hasn't heard this before: This is a live performance of Toccata. Yeah, pretty damn impressive. ELP were technically my first favorite band I believe. I can remember being like 4 or 5 and hearing my dad blast Brain Salad Surgery, and totally flipping out. I'd never heard anything in my life like it, literally. Still one of my favorite prog albums of all time!
