This one's a beauty. Tarkus is probably their best song overall but this is the clear highlight from the first LP (which is very strong throughout).

One of the first 3 Rock albums I ever bought. The very first Rock Concert I ever attended. Works Tour 1977, Detroit, one of the few cities that got to see the 81 piece orchestral version of the show. Cobo Arena, section A16, seat 22. Scary that I can even remember that knowing what else happened at the show. So many wonderful sights, sounds and smells.......

The first time I listened to the album Emerson, Lake & Palmer their first masterpiece of many (in my opinion) I was overcome with admiration for this band. "Take A Pebble".....I now see the meaning of the lyrics in there true light. for the first time in there true context. I feel deeply saddened yet enlightened.I truly love the piano solo by Keith Emerson. For somebody who was self taught, he can play anything from Progressive Rock to Operatic Concertos. What a truly amazing gift. The clarity and oh so very "English Pronounciation" in Greg Lake's vocals are faultless. As for Carl Palmer he displays second to none timing, technique and ability as a percussionist. I played all their albums continuously in the 1970's 1980's. God bless them for bringing a truly innovation and in my estimation genius to the music industry. I miss them as a band with all my heart.

Most people I talk to about ELP don't consider it one of their better compositions. I like it better every time I hear it. It's a testament as to what a great a great band they were.
