Musical Joke - Reginald's Edwardian Serenade in F Major Menuetto & Trio

Wiki

Reginald's Edwardian Serenade in F Major is a musical joke and the soundtrack of the unreleased stage play adaptation of Hector Hugh Monroe's (Saki) book of short stories entitled "Reginald". The music is a serenade, however more closely resembles a concerto for Horn and Violin, and contains three movements: Allegro Assai, Minuet and Trio, Presto.

The music begins with a nice, well rounded melody which slowly falls apart into a pathetic mess of wrong notes and bad harmony; centered around music that is sometimes far too fast for the Horn and an inexcusably poor violin player.

The stage adaptation of the short stories, brings to life a part 2 of sorts, of Mrs. McKillop's garden party. Reginald, with revenge in mind over a George, Prince of Wales Prayer Book Christmas present he received from Mrs. McKillop, begs Mrs. McKillop to allow him to compose a piece for her party. She agrees and Reginald's Edwardian Serenade in F Major is performed to a total and utter, intentional disaster.
