Liverpool, United Kingdom (1978 – 1990, 1997 – present)
By the time of their debut album, 1980’s Crocodiles - a moderate UK hit - the drum machine had been replaced by Pete de Freitas. Their next, the critically-acclaimed Heaven Up Here, reached the Top Ten in 1981, as did 1983’s Porcupine and ‘84’s Ocean Rain. Singles like “
McCulloch quit the band in 1988. De Freitas was killed in a motorcycle accident one year later. The others decided to continue, recruiting Noel Burke to replace McCulloch on vocals in Reverberation (1990), which did not generate much excitement among fans or critics. Burke, Sargeant and Pattinson split after that, but the surviving three fourths of the original band reformed in 1997 and released Evergreen (1997), What Are You Going To Do With Your Life? (1999), Flowers (2001) and Siberia (2005). The group’s old audience liked the return to their classic sound, and they also managed to gain a number of new, younger listeners.
Including The Chameleons, Ian McCulloch, New Order, The Sound, The Church, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Psychedelic Furs and more…

one of their better tracks, zimbo with royal barundi brothers is one of my favourite tracks from the bunnymen, he was scared to talk or sing about the drug habit he had at the time.

Songs and Ocean Rain are NOT where you should start. The meat of the Bunnymen is in the first three albums. Crocodiles, Heaven Up Here and Porcupine are the outstanding classics of their catalogue. Ocean Rain is good, but it's amazingly self indulgent, not very innovative and generally a downturn for the band. Songs is okay, but only if you don't really want to listen to the best stuff, just the most popular stuff. It's nice to see My Kingdom placing high on the list above. Now, if only Lips Like Sugar would go away. Over the Wall needs to place WAY higher too.

wow. just made the trip from san francisco to see them at radio city music hall... and it was nothing short of amazing. ian sounded spot on (laying off the whiskey and smokes perhaps?).. having seen them on their last tour prior to their breakup (Echo & The Bunnymen tour), then seeing them twice since the reunion. i can say this was their best performance by far.

Tony, I would recommend listening to Songs To Learn and Sing, as it is their singles, covering the first 4 albums, Crocodiles, Heaven Up Here, Porcupine and Ocean Rain. You should hear how their sound developed. My personal favourite album is Heaven Up Here.

but they are much better than The Doors, The Doors only did 2 good albums, the Bunnymen have done at least 7 albums of good material, and i'm including the one without Ian, it shouldn't have been Bunnymen album but it's still good

so we've been told we sound like a young Ian McColluch, which made us, in turn, come here to check things out. Killing Time- most likely a full-on cover song for this Indie Rock Band.... fans of this style, please drop in and say high. www.myspace.com/autodef
