Dave Carter went to Nashville and tried to break into the songwriting business. That he did not succeed—that his songs were too rich, too complex, too lyrically dense, too strange and wonderful—was the world’s gain.

Dave Carter joined forces with fellow Portlander Tracy Grammer in the mid-1990s. Together they recorded three phenomenally well-received albums and cris-crossed the country, before Dave’s untimely death in 2002 brought a sudden end to the duo’s meteoric rise.

The final Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer album, Seven Is The Number, was released in 2006.
