It was inspired by Comfortably Numb and Hornsby wanted to write a song that gives him the same feeling as the legendary Pink Floyd song. At the time he was reading Lewis Puller’s autobiography, “Fortunate Son.” (He enlisted as a captain in Vietnam and tragically had both of his legs blown off). Immediately after finishing the book Hornsby begun writing this song.
