An incredible debut album. The only album they did after Al left that was better than this was BS&T, the group's second album. After that, they were very hit-or-miss.

I wouldn't say the band turned to complete shit after Al left.. It was really kinda hit-or-miss. Their second album and fourth albums were great. Their 3rd one was weak, and a majority of stuff after the 4th one was pretty mediocre with the exception of a few very good songs.

i agree with porpoise_mouth. once Al Kooper left, the band went to shit. this album kicks in every way - the musicianship is fantastic, the song writing is great, and the cohesiveness of the album is impeccable. who can forget that hysterical laughing in the overture?

This is the real Blood, Sweat and Tears -- an amazing one-album band led by Al Kooper, with astounding songwriting, production and, of course, musicianship. Child Is the Father to the Man was one of the top 10 rock albums from the 1960s.
