In a BBC Radio Documentary about Blondie, Debbie Harry stated that the song is about what gossip columns do to people's lives. The song charted in Australia in 1978 peaking at number 81. Two versions of the song were included in the 2011 movie Birdesmaids and the song was covered by Boomkat for the 2004 movie Mean Girls.
