In an interview with Annie Mac from BBC Radio, Dan Smith said: "'We just wanted to explore the idea of like the fact that online or virtually you can kind of choose who you want to be, you can distort this version of yourself. But that escapism, obviously, is amazing in some senses but can be really unhealthy.'"
