Mull of Kintyre is derived from the Gaelic 'Maol Chinn Tìre' with 'maol' meaning "bare". It refers to the Kintyre Peninsula of the southwestern portion of Scotland. This song was originally written and performed by Paul McCartney and Wings (most of who were living in Kintyre at the time) in 1977. The song itself was a tribute to the beauty of the land.
