i have no idea if the player-piano thing is true, but i think it would make sense, since he programs a lot of his music/music programs himself, and the punch-cards for the piano are just a really primitive kind of computer-my dad used to program with punch cards.

I heard last night that this song was created using an olde-fashion player piano, with the rolls of punch-card music and whatnot, and the noises you can hear in the background are the gears and mechanism in the thing turning. The way the whole piece is so unvaried rhythmically, without any subtle sustains or emphases, would seem to back that theory up. Dunno if it's true or not, but it made me like the song a whole lot more.
