The emotional final track of Lioness: Hidden Treasures, “A Song For You,” is a cover of Leon Russell’s 1970 version, though the track was made famous by American soul performer Donny Hathaway. Hathaway was undoubtedly Winehouse’s biggest musical inspiration, with Winehouse mentioning him in “Rehab,” performing numerous tracks of his live at her own shows, and even praising him at the end of this song. The cover was recorded in one-take in the spring of 2009, and was later revamped with production from Salaam Remi.
