This song bothers me. It's decent (and the sentiment is really very sweet) but Damon Albarn's presence irritates me, exactly like it did on Rocket Juice & the Moon. Despite being the least talented person in the studio he plasters his sound all over the song and it doesn't fit in with the rest of the album very well at all. It's alright if you want something more melancholic (and thoroughly more processed and western) than the rest of Welcome to Mali, but usually I just skip it and start the album (which is otherwise incredible) with Ce N'est Pas Bon. I appreciate someone with Albarn's profile taking an interest in Malian music, and admittedly I haven't heard the album he did with Toumani Diabaté but so far I am less than impressed with his ventures into African music.
