Description
This show is a part of a series called "Generations". The premise of this series is how art is passed down through--generations--which is a perfect opportunity for the release of Emily's fathers' book "Secret Carnival Workers: The Paul Haines Reader". Compiled over the last three years by Emily and her family, it's a meticulous collection of Paul's poems, short fiction and music journalism from 1955-2002. The title is taken from his poem, "The Prince". This compendium, alternately humourous, sly, cryptic, outrageous and playful, influenced by jazz, travel, dada and the surreal… perhaps the poems themselves are the secret carnival workers. The Paul Haines Reader was edited by Stuart Broomer, former editor of the Canadian jazz music magazine, Coda.
